The author of Permission Marketing, Seth Godin, is a best-selling author, entrepreneur and well-known online promoter. In his book, he passes on his advice and knowledge of advertising and how to get customers’ attention.

His stance is that modern businesses can no longer just rely on traditional advertising, such as magazines, TV commercials or mail-outs to grab people’s attention. He argues that you have to get the customer’s permission first, using methods such as a free sample, a content, opinion survey, discount etc.

Once people have decided to give up some of their time to enter a contest or conduct the survey, you are establishing a relationship that can lead to a sale. He also talks about the importance of deepening permission to communicate with the customers. In addition, Godin provides lots of informative case studies, including the American Airlines frequent flier program.
