Exploring the Unknown

Exploring the Unknown

Sometimes, you stick to what’s familiar because you know you can be sure of what happens. You take comfort in that feeling that you will always be in a place where you can do the things you know you’re good at. You get so used to things that when unexpected things happen, you sometime don’t know how to react, especially if it is something you’re not ready to have in your life. These comfort zones provide solace and peace when anxiety moves in and takes over the situation. While you do need a place to retreat when things gets too tough to handle, you shouldn’t make it a constant in your life.

When you want to achieve greatness, you have to realize that you also need to venture out into the unknown. Greater things come when you look elsewhere. Those who achieve success do so because they put themselves on the line and were willing to take risks. They dare to do things that most won’t necessarily risk. They may have fallen harder than others, they also got back on the saddle better than ever.

Growing up, you were taught to always take the safe route for the sake of your health and peace of mind. But that’s not how reality often works. In fact, the world can be a tough and challenging place to live in. You were also taught to believe that you could survive as long as you have a good education to back you up. Your school may have given you the equipment to face the world, but you also have to rely on sheer willpower and inner strength to do better.

You need to learn how to be flexible and resilient when it comes to changes. You should not limit your abilities to perform well in only certain areas. In fact, you should be able to adapt wherever you are. And for whatever life throws at you, you should be ready to face it even when it is something you’re not entirely familiar with. Too many people just wish to surround themselves with only what they know for the sake of their own ease. They try to keep surprises to a minimum and excuse their attitude by saying that they thrive on the familiar. They hold back because they think that they are being rational, but the truth is, they will never be as great as many people.

They may also fear ridicule. If they assume that they can never be successful, then they’d rather not try anything at all. This paralyzing attitude brings about regret, particularly in life’s later years. Would you like to lead boring a life, one that is devoid of fun and adventure? If we want more, you need to become braver and more adventurous. Comfort zones don’t mean anything for risk takers because they know that reaching their goal trumps everything else. Don’t live your life in a box because life will always have its share of surprises, and rather than running away from them, you should embrace your experiences and learn to see the bright side in these bittersweet shockers.

When You Need a Change

Feb 8, 2010 Author: admin | Filed under: Self Improvement

When You Need a Change

You go to school, study hard in college, and concentrate on building a career. The school you go to may prepare you for the real world by enhancing your talents. You need to do well in your chosen field of expertise. As you continue to live this mediocre and incomplete life, you find yourself growing more and more restless each day. You wonder and then suddenly you realize that you are no longer happy with your job. Getting up every day isn’t worth it and you’d rather spend your days doing something else. How sad it is to realize after years of study, this isn’t exactly what you wanted after all.

You end up being too hard on yourself. If you could only turn back time and start over so that you end up making the right choice. But that’s not how it works, does it? You can’t undo the past, and what you have to do is work on the now. Always realize that it is never too late to make a change. As long as you can do something, you can always take a different path. Nonetheless, you always have to think things through before you make that crucial decision. Then, you have to stop punishing yourself for the dire situation you’re in. Life is an ongoing learning experience for everyone. No matter how old you are, there is always something to learn. There are too just too many untapped resources within you, and a lifetime may not enough to figure all these out.

Change is going to happen. You can’t do anything about that, but this doesn’t mean you cannot learn to make something worthwhile. Your career keeps you on a steady path, but when you’re unhappy, it’s difficult to stay on that path. You need to do something else. Life is too short, and it isn’t meant for spending on something you loathe.
No matter how much you earn, the feeling of fulfillment must never be undervalued. It is necessary to achieve the feeling of true accomplishment if you want to look back on a life well-lived. Once you make the decision on what to concentrate on, you need to plan ways wherein you can equip yourself with the skills needed to earn that job. Letting go of your present career may be too difficult to achieve, especially when it is all too sudden. This is your bread and butter at the moment, and you would basically be unable to do anything if there is no income coming in. Plan to make the shift slowly. If it makes you happy, you may have to sacrifice a little.

In making great decisions, help is the most vital thing you can have. You must never hesitate to ask for it. You need someone who can help put things in perspective. Seeking support helps keep you stay afloat when you feel like drowning.  Change is always a tough decision to make. As long as you have the drive to enrich yourself with new skills, there will always be doors open.

Facing the Future by Spending Less

Facing the Future by Spending Less

Times are tougher now for many families than they’ve been for more than half a century. A sense of anxiety seems to hang in the air about holding on to your jobs and making ends meet. Your family may even be dealing with unemployment or having trouble keeping up with the mortgage. Yet at the same time, there is also a sense of opportunity. Many families are re-examining their priorities and values as they focus on what truly matters to them. They’re also trying new ways of looking at the world, making the best of less, and finding ways to sustain a fundamental sense of optimism about the future. All these efforts are key elements of a resiliency you hope to foster in the future generation.

Calling all this a silver lining might be too much to as in times of job loss, foreclosures, and even hunger. But with so much of what you took for granted less certain, you have a chance to discover strengths you never knew you had and to rediscover the solid human values that have been with you all along.

Take community and connections, for instance. You now know that your own economic survival and wellbeing is interconnected with everybody else’s all over the globe. To pull yourselves out of this financial mess, you must pull together. Every day, young children struggle with the conflict between their selfish wishes and their need to nurture and care for others in order to feel good about themselves. For parents it can be tempting to encourage your children to look out for number one even at the expense of other children’s interests. Yet, this may be a time when you are all more likely to help your children see that little everyday sacrifices and compromises can strengthen your commitment to each other. You should encourage this sense of community now more than ever. This is for your own benefit and to be stronger in the years ahead.

Even when the bare necessities of life are no longer within reach, learning that others are ready to share what they have and that you can help even when you have less than before brings renewed strengths. When there is little else to count on, reassurance can still be drawn from these acts of human kindness and knowing that you are not alone.

Your economy may have boomed for so long on the basis of your purchasing power. You may have mistaken the pleasure your spending gave you for true meaning in your lives or a sense of who you truly are. But instant gratification today with no clear thinking about tomorrow is not a model that is likely to work for the younger ones in the future. Buying’s immediate gratification is hard to let go of, but in its place you can help them appreciate a different kind of satisfaction that comes from saving and strengthening yourselves. The people’s love affair with buying without even considering what it serves may soon be over. But that encourage you to find other activities that you can do.
